01 / ABOUT THE PLACE

About this place

Set along the Nishi-sando approach near Senso-ji, Kamon no Kou Japanese Crape Shop specializes in desserts built around Japanese tea and meticulous assembly. Rolled to order right before your eyes, each crepe catches the eye with its neat presentation and intricate internal layers.

The flagship Uji matcha crepes match a pleasantly chewy batter with the clean, pleasant bitterness of stone-ground green tea. A crisp caramelized top defines the raspberry and creme brulee version, where smooth matcha custard and fresh cream meet a bright splash of berry acidity. Other combinations bring together Japanese and Western confectionery traditions, from a three-chocolate crepe highlighting Valrhona cocoa to a recipe pairing Eitaro black sugar syrup with soft gyuhi mochi and rich cream.

Crepes made with roasted green tea from Kakegawa are another pillar of the shop. Custard infused with hojicha anchors diverse variations, including one that rolls in a slice of Basque cheesecake with praline paste, and another featuring citrus peel alongside kinako warabi-mochi ice cream.

Beverages take tea just as seriously, pouring Kyoto Uji matcha and matcha lattes sourced from Fukujuen alongside deep-steamed Yutakamidori sencha. Options extend to inventive refreshments like an iced strawberry-and-raspberry matcha sangria and Asakusa craft cola.

Beyond takeout, a modern Japanese-style seating area on the 2nd floor provides a comfortable space to pause during a walk through Asakusa. For those wanting a savory bite, the kitchen also prepares sandwiches and skewers featuring A5 wagyu beef.
